In this investigation, three representative models of mandibles were reconstructed, and material parameters were assigned using the cortical-cancellous and the grayscale-based assignment methods. Digital surgical planning was used to simulate the three osteotomy trajectories under mandibular centric occlusion and impact condition, and to compare the stresses and deformations of the models. Results revealed the cortical-cancellous method yielded a wider stress gradient but lower peak stress, strain, and displacement than the grayscale-based method. The peak stresses and displacements are kept within the safety threshold under both assignment methods. This preliminary study provides a necessary methodological foundation for personalized osteotomy.
