Abstract:
Inorganic amphiphilic Janus materials, characterized by asymmetric chemical properties on their two opposing surfaces and a micro/nanorough structure, are highly promising for developing abrasion-resistant superhydrophobic coatings. However, few studies have reported inorganic amphiphilic Janus particles that incorporate a self-healing functionality to enhance the long-term durability of superhydrophobicity. In this work, a durable superhydrophobic coating with integrated abrasion resistance and self-healing properties was fabricated using amphiphilic Janus SiO2 microcapsules. The resulting coating exhibits outstanding superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle (WCA) of 168.0° and a sliding angle (SA) of 2.3°. It retains its superhydrophobic state even after 220 abrasion cycles, demonstrating exceptional durability and abrasion resistance. Furthermore, the coating shows superior water repellency, stain resistance, and self-cleaning performance. This work provides a versatile and effective strategy for constructing durable superhydrophobic coatings with potential applications in various fields, such as leather, paper, and wood.
