Abstract:
Stretchable polymer semiconductors are identified as the fundamental component of wearable devices for emerging applications, including in-sensor computing and personalized medical treatment. However, mechanical deformation invariably leads to the degradation of electrical properties. Rational design strategies to improve mechanical robustness and conformability without compromising electronic performance are paramount, combining with feasible technologies tailored to specific device structures, thus providing solutions for varying application scenarios. This review discusses recent progresses in stretchable polymer semiconductors, emphasizing design strategies for achieving intrinsic stretchability as well as structural stretchability. Subsequently, the strain energy dissipation mechanism is highlighted for an in-depth understanding of the domination of molecular structure and geometric morphology on stretchability. Their applications in human-machine interaction and flexible bioelectronics are also provided. In the end, perspectives on the remaining challenges and future opportunities in this field are laid out.
