Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of audio-visual stimulation (AVS) in reducing alpha and beta brainwave power.
  • To evaluate the clinical impact of AVS on anxiety levels using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI).

Main Methods:

  • Thirty participants underwent AVS, with 12 in a control group receiving audio-visual white noise.
  • Electroencephalography (EEG) data were collected pre-, during-, and post-stimulation.
  • Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis quantified brainwave power; STAI assessed anxiety.

Main Results:

  • AVS significantly decreased alpha and beta brainwave power during stimulation (p < 0.05).
  • A statistically significant reduction in self-reported anxiety was observed in the AVS group (p < 0.001).
  • No significant anxiety reduction was noted in the control group.
