The Previne Brasil Program (PBP) saw innovation labs improve Family Health Unit (FHU) performance and financial allocation. Further enhancements are needed for all units to optimize processes and care management.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Health Management
- Healthcare Financing
Background:
- The Previne Brasil Program (PBP) is the current financing model for Primary Health Care in Brazil.
- The Ministry of Health established the PBP with four payment criteria.
- Municipalities are exploring strategies to enhance Primary Health Care performance and financial allocation.
Purpose of the Study:
- To comparatively assess the performance and resource mobilization of Family Health Units (FHUs) participating in the Primary Health Care Innovation Laboratory (PHCIL) versus non-participating units.
- To evaluate the impact of the PHCIL on FHU performance within the PBP framework.
- To identify areas for improvement in work processes and care management for FHUs.
Main Methods:
- Quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional study.
- Utilized secondary data from 63 FHUs in Campo Grande (MS) from 2021 to 2022.
- Statistical analyses conducted in R, with a significance level of p <0.05.
Main Results:
- In 2022, FHUs participating in the PHCIL demonstrated statistically significant superior performance compared to non-participating units.
- The study suggests a need for innovation within FHUs to improve outcomes.
- Both participating and non-participating FHUs exhibited potential for performance enhancement and increased resource mobilization.
Conclusions:
- The PHCIL initiative showed positive impacts on FHU performance, indicating the value of innovation in Primary Health Care.
- Continuous improvement in work processes and care management is essential for all FHUs to maximize performance and resource mobilization under the PBP.
- Further research into innovative strategies for FHUs is warranted to optimize Primary Health Care delivery and financing.
