BcNAC55.2 activates BcFBA8 to enhance abiotic stress tolerance in Wucai

Abstract:
Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (FBA) is a central glycolytic enzyme, but its role in wucai (Brassica campestris L.) abiotic stress tolerance is unknown. A genome-wide survey of Brassica rapa identified 12 BrFBA genes. We show that heterologous expression of BcFBA8 in Arabidopsis confers tolerance to abiotic stress, improving germination and root growth. Transgenic lines exhibited reduced oxidative stress markers (MDA and H₂O₂) and enhanced total antioxidant capacity. Furthermore, we identified a stress-responsive NAC transcription factor, BcNAC55.2, which directly activates BcFBA8 expression by binding to its promoter. Our results uncover a novel BcNAC55.2-BcFBA8 regulatory module that enhances abiotic stress resilience, providing a potential target for improving wucai crop tolerance.
