Higher serum non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) levels significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) death, including stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD). This elevated risk is more pronounced in males, smokers, drinkers, and individuals with diabetes.
