Preaxial Polydactyly Reconstruction in Adults: A Report of 3 Cases

Case:
Preaxial polydactyly is typically addressed early in childhood when treated operatively. We present 3 cases of surgical treatment of preaxial polydactyly in adulthood (Wassel/Flatt Types I, III and IV).
Conclusion:
Similar technical principles may be used for management of preaxial polydactyly in pediatric and adult patients. However, as physeally mature individuals have decreased osseous remodeling and decreased cortical plasticity in comparison with children, adult patients should be counseled preoperatively regarding the potential differences in outcomes in comparison with similar techniques used to treat preaxial polydactyly in children.
