The interference of human activities in the carbon cycle is not limited to carbon emissions but extends to disrupting the natural processes of the carbon cycle across ecosystems. Growing evidences suggest that human-produced chemicals can impose profound, long lasting, and irreversible impacts on these processes. However, our understanding of the extent and mechanisms by which chemicals influence the stability of the carbon cycle remains limited. The systemic risks are expected to rise with the accelerating scale and diversity of chemical production in the future. We call for the integration of chemical-climate interactions into future studies and policy frameworks.
