How to Fix Left Colonic Anastomoses in Place to Prevent Internal Herniation

Internal hernia due to large mesenteric defects following laparoscopic colorectal surgery is an uncommon but increasingly recognized complication with significant morbidity. The prophylactic closure of these defects remains debated due to potential associated complications. This article presents a novel method that is both simple and effective in preventing such hernias following left hemicolectomy by securing the neo-descending colon to the lateral abdominal wall using a laparoscopic tacking device.
