Introduction:
Postoperative infections following orthognathic surgery remain a significant concern despite advancements in surgical techniques. Identifying the risk factors is essential for improving outcomes.
Methods:
This retrospective analysis examined patient records over a five-year period, evaluating risk factors like age, comorbidities, and surgical complexity. Infection rates were compared with preventive measures, including perioperative antibiotic use and postoperative care.
Results:
Results demonstrated that infection rates were higher in patients with prolonged operative times, obesity, and preexisting conditions like diabetes. Antibiotic prophylaxis reduced infections significantly in high-risk groups.
Conclusion:
Effective postoperative infection management in orthognathic surgery hinges on addressing identified risk factors and optimizing preventive strategies, especially in high-risk patients.
