Role of Non-vascularized Iliac Crest Graft as an Autogenous Bone Graft for Mandibular Lateral Continuity Defects

Background:
Orofacial defects need restoration based on extent, function, and aesthetics, often using autogenous bone grafts for optimal results with minimal donor-site morbidity.
Objective:
To determine the outcome of mandibular reconstruction with autogenous non-vascularized iliac crest graft.
Methodology:
A one-year study included 70 mandibular defects reconstructed using autogenous non-vascularized iliac crest grafts.
Results:
84.3% of autogenous non-vascularized iliac crest grafts succeeded, 15.7% failed from infection or resorption, and all donor sites healed without hypertrophic scarring.
Conclusion:
Iliac crest grafts used as autogenous non-vascularized bone grafts are a reliable reconstruction option for bony mandibular defects.
