Background:
Mothers of children admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) often experience high levels of psychological distress. Structured nurse-led interventions can play a vital role in supporting their psychosocial well-being.
Aim:
To assess the effectiveness of a nurse-led intervention in reducing depression, anxiety, and stress among mothers of ICU-admitted children.
Methodology:
An experimental study was conducted among 30 mothers using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-42 scale, with assessments taken at three time points and analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA with Bonferroni post hoc tests.
Results:
There were significant decreases in depression, anxiety, and stress scores at post-intervention time points (P < 0.001) with large effect sizes; only child dependency in daily activities was significantly related to baseline depression (P = 0.016).
Conclusion:
Nurse-implemented intervention significantly decreased maternal psychological distress with pediatric ICU admission and should be incorporated into regular care for increased family-centered outcomes.
