Background:
Spinal anesthesia is widely used for infra-umbilical surgeries due to its safety, cost-effectiveness, and effective analgesia with muscle relaxation. This study compares 0.75% hyperbaric ropivacaine with fentanyl and 0.5% hyperbaric levobupivacaine with fentanyl in spinal anesthesia.
Materials And Methods:
Ninety patients were randomly assigned to Group L (n = 45) receiving levobupivacaine (0.5%, 3 ml) with fentanyl (0.2 mcg/kg) and Group R (n = 45) receiving ropivacaine (0.75%, 3 ml) with fentanyl (0.2 mcg/kg). Sensory and motor block onset, duration, regression, postoperative analgesia, and side effects were assessed.
Results:
Sensory block onset was similar, but Group L had longer sensory and motor block duration (P < 0.05). Group R had faster recovery and better hemodynamic stability. Rescue analgesia timing and side effects were comparable.
Conclusion:
Both drugs are effective, but ropivacaine ensures quicker recovery, while levobupivacaine provides longer pain relief.
