Background:
Breast cancer surgery is a cornerstone in the management of breast cancer. The choice of anesthesia can impact surgical outcomes, patient recovery, and overall satisfaction.
Objectives:
This study compares the efficacy and safety of combined segmental spinal epidural anesthesia (CSSEA) versus general anesthesia (GA) in breast cancer surgeries.
Materials And Methods:
A randomized comparative study was conducted with 120 patients undergoing elective breast cancer surgeries, divided into two groups: CSSEA (n = 60) and GA (n = 60). Key metrics assessed included intraoperative hemodynamic stability, postoperative pain scores, nausea incidence, and hospital stay duration.
Results:
The CSSEA group showed significantly lower intraoperative blood pressure fluctuations, reduced postoperative pain scores at 1, 3, and 6 hours, and lower nausea incidence compared to the GA group. Hospital stay was also shorter in the CSSEA group.
Conclusion:
CSSEA offers a viable and potentially superior alternative to GA for breast cancer surgeries, with better intraoperative hemodynamic stability, postoperative pain management, and faster recovery.
