Aim:
To evaluate and compare the effectiveness of Active Oxygen Gel (BlueM gel) and Laser as an adjunct to Scaling and Root Planning (SRP) in the treatment of periodontitis.
Materials And Methods:
75 sites in 25 patients (14 males and 11 females), with probing pocket depth ≥5 mm were selected and randomly divided into three groups with 25 sites per group where Group A received SRP alone, Group B received SRP + Laser and Group C had received SRP + Active Oxygen Gel (BlueM Gel). The selected sites were assessed for Plaque Index (PI), Gingival Index (GI), Probing Pocket Depth (PPD) and Relative Attachment Level (RAL). All the clinical parameter values were subjected to the statistical analysis.
Results:
There was statistically significant improvement in PI, GI, RAL, and PPD from baseline to 6 weeks and 3 months in all the three treatment groups. Intragroup comparison showed statistically more significant improvement for PPD and RAL at 3 months in SRP + Laser and SRP + Active Oxygen gel than SRP alone. On intergroup comparison, statistically no significant difference was seen in any parameter from baseline to 3 months.
Conclusion:
All the three treatment modalities are clinically effective in the treatment of periodontitis but SRP + Laser and SRP + Active Oxygen gel are more effective than SRP alone.
