Abstract:
A yellow-pigmented bacterium, designated as strain R45T, was isolated from a volatile organic compounds treatment system in Guangzhou, China. Cells of the strain were Gram-stain-negative, catalase and oxidase-positive, rod-shaped, without flagellum, non-motile, and non-spore-forming. Strain R45T shared high 16 S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Dyella jiangningensis KACC 16,539T (97.5%), Fulvimonas yonginensis KACC 16,952T (97.4%), Fulvimonas soli LMG 19,981T (97.3%), and Dyella terrae KACC 12,748T (97.3%). Phylogenetic trees based on 16 S rRNA gene and genome sequences showed that strain R45T formed a distinct clade close to Fulvimonas soli LMG 19,981T, suggesting that strain R45T represents a novel species in the genus Fulvimonas. The major fatty acids of strain R45T were iso-C15:0, iso-C16:0, iso-C17:0 and iso-C17:1ω9c. The polar lipids included diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphorylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified phospholipids, and an unidentified lipid. The G + C content in DNA was 70.0% and the respiratory quinone was Q-8. These cellular components supported the affiliation of strain R45T in the genus Fulvimonas. Furthermore, strain R45T shared an average nucleotide identity value of 83.9% and a digital DNA-DNA hybridization value of 37.0% with Fulvimonas soli LMG 19,981T which confirmed that strain R45T is a novel species in the genus Fulvimonas. Therefore, the name Fulvimonas volatilium sp. nov. is proposed for this novel species. The type strain is R45T (= GDMCC 1.3236T = KCTC 92296T).
