Abstract:
The lack of diversity in clinical trials and drug development negatively impacts public health. Growing evidence suggests that successful recruitment, retention, and protocol compliance, such as medication adherence, must account for social drivers of health, particularly among underrepresented populations. Implementing novel approaches, such as the wellness and prescription produce program described in this perspective, may bring research to communities in ways that facilitate meaningful inclusion of underrepresented populations in clinical trials and promote health equity.
