Abstract:
The prevalence of burnout among residents is high. Residency period involves several work-related stressors linked to medical training, in addition to exposure to psychosocial factors inherent to complex organizations such as teaching hospitals. Furthermore, individual risk factors such as age, certain personality traits, mental health history, or stressful life events can coexist. In this context, we propose an initial and periodic health monitoring protocol along the years of training, designed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of specialists in occupational medicine and nursing, psycho-sociology, mental health, and representatives of residents and their supervisors. The objective of this protocol is to ensure the wellbeing of residents throughout their training period, promoting optimal, safe, and healthy professional development. The Institution and the Health and Safety Committee have approved the protocol.
