Background:

Transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TRUSP) is a common urological procedure.
Rectal cleansing is sometimes employed to reduce the risk of infectious complications.
Povidone-iodine (PVP-I) is an antiseptic agent with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.

Purpose of the Study:

To systematically review and synthesize evidence on the effects of rectal cleansing with povidone-iodine (PVP-I) versus no cleansing in patients undergoing TRUSP.
To assess the impact of PVP-I rectal cleansing on infectious complications and other outcomes following TRUSP.

Main Methods:

This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review.
The review will adhere to Cochrane methodology for intervention reviews.
Systematic search of relevant databases will be conducted to identify eligible studies.
