Disparities in injury outcomes across groups have persisted over time and, for some mechanisms, widened in recent years. Primary injury prevention strategies often emphasize individual risk taking, safety behaviors, and education. The Injury Equity Framework and Injury Inequities Swiss Cheese Model provide the field with new perspectives on contributors and countermeasures across primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention considered within the context of family, community, structural, and societal factors.
