Abstract:
Puerarin is an isoflavone with the efficacy of flavonoids and medicinal effects but with low lipid solubility and stability that hinders its food-based application. Puerarin myristate (PM) was synthesized via enzymatic transesterification to improve the lipid solubility. Optimal PM synthesis conditions were determined. Then, techno-economic analysis (TEA) was performed for the first time to develop an efficient PM production process. Under optimal PM synthesis conditions, the reaction time was shortened to 1 h, which yielded a substantially high conversion of 97.85 %. As PM synthesis was performed using the low-toxicity solvent acetone, it may be readily used for applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries. Furthermore, four process options were designed for PM production. The simulation results and TEA indicated the economic feasibility of the optimized conditions. Sensitivity analysis results based on reliable economic indicators showed that PM may be applied to various industries including the food industry.
