Syphilitic aortitis, a tertiary syphilis complication, can be fatal. Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET/CT incidentally detected this rare condition in its early, subclinical phase, enabling prompt treatment.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Medicine
- Infectious Diseases
- Radiology
Background:
- Syphilis, caused by *Treponema pallidum*, is a sexually transmitted infection with diverse manifestations.
- Syphilitic aortitis is a severe complication of tertiary syphilis, potentially leading to aortic aneurysms and fatality.
- Early diagnosis of syphilitic aortitis is critical for effective patient management and improved outcomes.
