Root-filled teeth with apical periodontitis rarely worsen symptomatically or in size over one year without treatment. This study on asymptomatic apical periodontitis suggests short-term stability, but longer follow-up is needed.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the short-term (1-year) natural course of asymptomatic apical periodontitis in root-filled teeth.

  • Prospective study of 157 patients with asymptomatic apical bone destructions.
  • Utilized intraoral radiographs and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).
