Abstract:
Recently, cosmetic products have become an essential part of daily personal care routines. However, conventional cosmetic formulations still face several challenges, including poor stability, limited skin permeability, a higher risk of side effects, and rapid release of active ingredients. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) offer a potential solution to these limitations due to their large surface area, substantial pore volume, and ability to precisely control pore size. MSNs are highly adaptable for cosmetic applications, including enhancing formulation stability, improving skin penetration, and prolonging the release of active ingredients. This review aims to summarize the potential of MSNs as multifunctional carriers in cosmetics, elucidating their mechanism in enhancing the performance of active compounds based on current literature. Various studies show that MSNs consistently improvedefficacy, stability, and safety of cosmetics formulations. This review offers insights on the significance of integrating MSNs into cosmetic formulations to improve UV protection, anti-aging effects, antioxidant activity, deodorant action, and protection against dental erosion. Future prospects show favorable potential for cosmetics applications using MSNs.
