Abstract:
The geometry and chemical bonding of Au2H2-/0 have been investigated by using photoelectron velocity map imaging spectroscopy and theoretical calculations. The Au2H2- cluster adopts a distorted Y-shaped structure, featuring one H atom bridging two Au atoms and another H atom terminally bonded to one Au atom. The unusually low frequency of the Au-H stretching vibration observed in the current spectrum can be attributed to the delocalized 3c-2e bonding interaction associated with a bridging H atom as well as the synergistic donation and back-donation interactions between the two AuH subunits.
