Phase-modulated photonic digital logic processing based on optically injected microdisk lasers
None:
We propose a phase-modulated photonic neuromorphic architecture based on optically injected microdisk lasers for digital logic operation. In the proposed system, optical phase-coded pulses coherently break the injection-locked state of the microdisk laser, subsequently disrupting the symmetry of two counter-propagating whispering gallery modes and triggering spiking excitability. Programmable spikes are generated by precisely modulating the phase of perturbations, thus facilitating the realization of arbitrary basic digital logic gates through distinct phase-encoding schemes. This work represents the first demonstration, to the best of our knowledge, of the microdisk laser phase-modulated digital processing in microdisk lasers, providing a low-power and integrated photonic neuromorphic paradigm for general-purpose optical computing.
