Empowering Nurses for a Sustainable Future: The Impact of Green Leadership and Climate Literacy on Green Creativity

Grounded in the theories of planned behavior, the transformational leadership model, and the green creativity framework, this study examined how climate literacy influences nurses' green creativity and whether green leadership moderates this relationship. A descriptive correlational cross-sectional design was conducted from October to December 2024 among 334 nurses from six hospitals in Egypt, using a convenience sample. Three validated tools-the Climate Literacy Scale, the Green Leadership Scale, and the Green Creativity Scale-were administered, all of which were previously validated in nursing research. Multivariate regression revealed that climate literacy (β = 0.227, p < 0.001) and reen leadership (β = 0.202, p < 0.01) significantly predicted green creativity, explaining 35.5% of its variance. Moderation analysis indicated that the effect of climate literacy was strongest under high green leadership (β = 0.292, 95% CI: 0.171-0.412). Green leadership, which reflects transformational and participative behaviors, enhances the translation of environmental knowledge into creative sustainable practices. The findings highlight the need to integrate climate literacy into nursing curricula and embed green leadership training in professional development. Practical initiatives include forming green committees, setting sustainability objectives in performance appraisals, and supporting eco-innovation projects to advance environmentally responsible healthcare.
