Abstract:
Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) infection typically presents as a benign and self-limiting viral illness. However, in rare cases, it can lead to life-threatening complications. In this case a previously healthy four-month-old infant was admitted in circulatory collapse, experiencing seizures and rapid cerebral deterioration. The cause was identified as HHV-6-induced acute necrotising encephalopathy (ANE) and acute liver failure. Despite intensive medical efforts, the condition was unresponsive to treatment, and the infant was transitioned to palliative care.
