Abstract:
In scientific research, the application of D2O has been limited by the requirement of high purity for a long time, so it is of great significance to develop methods for D2O detection. Based on the factors of energy transfer between ligand and lanthanide ions, and the correlation between the vibration frequency of the D-O bond and H-O bond and the luminescence of Ln-CP, we designed and successfully prepared a three-dimensional coordination supramolecular framework EuL, which was assembled by coordination bond and π-π stacking interaction. A series of D2O luminescence detection analysis showed that EuL could realize the qualitative and quantitative detection of D2O content in H2O. Unlike the green-yellow or yellow-orange ratio luminescence changes of most Ln-CP luminescence sensors, the blue-red ratio luminescence of EuL makes its visible luminescence more obvious. In addition, in order to further improve the convenience and reusability of EuL as a luminescence sensor, we also prepared EuL@PMMA, which has been proven to be a fast and economical D2O detector in practical applications. This work will provide some experience and reference for the expansion of D2O detection materials and the development of new ratio luminescent sensing materials with significant changes in light color.

Colors and Magnetism
When atoms or molecules absorb light at the proper frequency, their electrons are excited to higher-energy orbitals. For many main group atoms and molecules, the absorbed photons are in the ultraviolet range of the electromagnetic spectrum, which cannot be detected by the human eye. For coordination compounds, the energy difference between the d orbitals often allows photons in the visible range to be absorbed and emitted, which is seen as colors by the human...

Crystal Field Theory - Octahedral Complexes
To explain the observed behavior of transition metal complexes (such as colors), a model involving electrostatic interactions between the electrons from the ligands and the electrons in the unhybridized d orbitals of the central metal atom has been developed. This electrostatic model is crystal field theory (CFT). It helps to understand, interpret, and predict the colors, magnetic behavior, and some structures of coordination compounds of transition metals.
