Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching III: Evaluation and Documentation01:20

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching III: Evaluation and Documentation

2.4K
Evaluation of the teaching process enables the nurse to determine if the patient's learning needs were met and if training was effective. If the expected outcomes are not met, the care plan is revised, and additional education or reinforcement is provided. Nurses can ask questions after the session or obtain feedback to assess the patient's understanding of the topic.
Nurses can use several methods to evaluate patient outcomes. For example, oral questions can assess cognitive learning,...

Feedback Loops01:01

Feedback Loops

In most cases, excessive hormone production is prevented by negative feedback—a loop that starts with a stimulus inducing the release of a particular substance, like a hormone, to maintain a certain level before triggering a signal that results in a decrease in further release of the hormone.

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

4.1K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Feedback Inhibition

Biochemical reactions are occurring constantly in cells, converting starting substances to different products, usually with the help of enzymes that speed the reactions. Without enzymes, it would take far too long for most reactions to occur to be useful to the cell!

Sources of Self-Esteem II: Performance Feedback

176
Self-esteem is intricately tied to our perception of competence and our ability to exert control over our lives. One of the primary sources of this perception is performance feedback — the ongoing evaluation of our actions in terms of success and failure. According to Franks and Marolla (1976), people derive self-worth from experiencing themselves as causal agents, capable of achieving goals and overcoming obstacles. This process nurtures a critical component of self-esteem:...

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Health Informatics

Background:

  • Encounter-based teaching is crucial for medical education.
  • Clinical teachers often struggle to obtain timely feedback on their teaching.
  • A significant portion of clinical teaching remains undocumented.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and evaluate a web-based application, myTeachingEvaluation (myTE), to facilitate the documentation of clinical teaching encounters.
  • To assess the effectiveness of myTE in capturing previously undocumented teaching sessions.

Main Methods:

  • A needs assessment survey was administered to 34 academic clinical teachers.
  • A web-based application, myTE, was piloted by 13 faculty members over eight weeks.
  • Participant feedback and documentation rates were collected before and after the pilot.

Main Results:

  • 47% of surveyed teachers reported over 50% of their teaching was undocumented.
  • 62% of pilot users reported myTE enabled documentation of over 50% of previously undocumented teaching.
  • myTE successfully facilitated real-time feedback collection.

Conclusions:

  • The myTeachingEvaluation (myTE) application is effective in documenting clinical teaching encounters.
  • myTE complements existing systems to enhance feedback for medical educators.
  • This tool addresses a critical need for improved teaching documentation in medical education.
