Rigorous description of the approximation made by the ad hoc modification to the Kramers-Kronig constrained
1Defence Research and Development Canada, Valcartier Research Centre, 2459, De la Bravoure Road, City of Québec, G3J 1X5, Québec, Canada.
This study mathematically explains an ad hoc modification to Kramers-Kronig constrained variational analysis, improving spectral parameterization accuracy. The explanation reveals the modification corrects inverted parity functions while distorting the input, and introduces a novel Hilbert transform invariance property.
Area of Science:
- Physics
- Computational Chemistry
- Materials Science
Background:
- Kramers-Kronig constrained variational analysis is a universal method for spectral parameterization of optical quantities.
- This method relies on the Hilbert transform of a triangular-shaped input function.
- An ad hoc post-processing modification was previously introduced to improve accuracy.

Accuracy, limits, and approximation
Accuracy is defined as the closeness of the measured value to the true or actual value. In engineering mechanics, repeated measurements are taken during theoretical or experimental analyses to ensure that the result is precise and accurate.
