Summary

Hysteroscopy before in vitro fertilization (IVF) significantly identifies and treats intrauterine pathologies, improving implantation rates. Offering hysteroscopy, especially after IVF failure, is recommended regardless of initial ultrasound findings.

Background:

Hysteroscopy's role in infertility treatment, particularly before in vitro fertilization (IVF), remains debated.
Intrauterine pathologies can negatively impact IVF implantation rates.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the diagnostic and therapeutic impact of hysteroscopy on implantation rates in patients undergoing IVF.
To determine if hysteroscopy is beneficial for patients with and without prior IVF failure.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of 432 infertile patients undergoing hysteroscopy before embryo transfer (ET).
Patients were divided into two groups: those with previous IVF failure and those without.
Statistical analysis using the Chi-square test of independence.

Main Results:

A high percentage of patients in both groups were diagnosed and treated for intrauterine pathologies (70.5% and 79.9%).
Endometritis was a common diagnosis (51.1% and 63.1%), highlighting hysteroscopy's value even without clear ultrasound indications.
Results suggest a significant role for intrauterine pathologies in infertility.

Conclusions:

Hysteroscopy is valuable for diagnosing and treating intrauterine pathologies in IVF patients.
The study recommends offering hysteroscopy to all women undergoing IVF-ET, particularly those with a history of IVF failure.
Hysteroscopy is beneficial even when ultrasound findings are normal.
