Abstract:
Calcaneal osteotomies are surgical procedures performed to correct a hindfoot deformity or realign the calcaneus in conditions that include pes planus and pes cavus. These joint-sparing procedures offer the ability to realign the calcaneus, enhancing foot biomechanics, redistributing forces, and reducing pain and dysfunction. Among the most common types of calcaneal osteotomies are the medial slide, lateral slide, and Dwyer calcaneal osteotomy, each with distinct indications, advantages, and surgical considerations.

Fractures: Bone Repair
Minor fractures with no bone displacement are treated by immobilizing the fractured bone using a cast or splint. However, in the case of fractures with displaced bones, the broken bones are repositioned before immobilization to ensure successful healing without deformation and loss of function. The realignment of fractured bone ends is performed through a process called reduction. If the procedure...

Quarrying of Stone
One common method involves using a diamond belt saw to cut large blocks from the quarry face. These blocks can be about 50 feet long and 12 feet high. After the initial vertical cut, drilling is performed at the base of the block.
