Abstract:
Infantile hemangiomas (IH) may lead to both functional and aesthetic sequelae, especially in certain locations such as the breast area; therefore, understanding the factors that influence these outcomes is essential for optimizing management. This prospective study of patients with IHs on the trunk and extremities from Cruces University Hospital Vascular Anomaly Registry (01/2011 to 12/2023) included 449 patients [73.3% female; median age of 3.61 months (2.14; 6.18)]. The results suggest that IHs on the extremities showed a greater response to propranolol, whereas lesions in the anterior thoracic region, particularly the breast area, and the upper back were associated with a poorer response and increased likelihood of retreatment. Thus, this study raises awareness of the importance of early treatment and close follow-up, particularly of IHs in these locations.
