Abstract:
Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is characterized by vasogenic edema, which presents as hyperintense diffusion-weighted imaging and hyperintense apparent diffusion coefficient maps on multimodal magnetic resonance imaging. PRES often occurs in association with hypertension, renal failure, and sepsis. Before diagnosing PRES, infections and autoimmune encephalitis, vasculitis, venous sinus thrombosis, hemorrhagic stroke, and lymphoma should be carefully ruled out. Differentiating PRES is crucial because its treatment differs significantly from these other conditions.
