Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between procedures potentially causing transient core weakness and the incidence of new plantar fasciitis diagnoses.
  • To determine if cesarean section and posterior lumbar fusion surgeries are linked to an increased risk of developing PF.

  • A retrospective case-control study utilized the Truven Health MarketScan database.
  • New PF diagnoses within one year of cesarean section, posterior lumbar fusion, or matched control procedures were identified.
  • Logistic regression analysis was employed to calculate adjusted odds ratios for PF development.

  • Women undergoing cesarean section showed a 24.1% increased odds of PF within 12 months compared to vaginal births (OR 1.241).
