Summary

A 12-week intensive exercise program significantly reduced inflammatory markers, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), in women with breast cancer. These findings suggest exercise may benefit breast cancer patients by improving inflammation.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To retrospectively evaluate the impact of a 12-week intensive resistance exercise program on NLR and SIRI in women with breast cancer.
  • To explore potential benefits of exercise interventions on systemic inflammation in breast cancer patients.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of two prospective clinical trials (EXERT-BC, EXERT-BCN).
  • Analysis of complete blood count (CBC) values pre- and post-intervention in 21 eligible breast cancer patients.

  • Further prospective studies are warranted to validate exercise's role in modulating inflammation for breast cancer patients.
