Aims:
The study aimed to assess the properties of the Slovak and Czech version of the Relationships Questionnaire (RQ) designed to measure adult attachment styles and to examine the sociodemographic differences among Slovak and Czech respondents.
Sample, Settings, And Methods:
Representative samples of the adult Slovak population (N = 1018) and the Czech population (N = 1800) were collected. The Experience of Close Relationship - Revised (ECR-R) was used to assess the convergent validity of the RQ. The Short Form Health Survey (SF-8) was used to determine the ability of RQ to predict psychological well-being.
Results:
In the Slovak and Czech settings, the RQ demonstrates good properties and is a suitable instrument for practical use. ECR-R anxiety and avoidance dimensions were related in the expected manner with secure, fearful, and dismissive categories, except for the category preoccupied. The RQ categories and dimensions proved to predict ECR-R anxiety and avoidance. There was also a significant relationship with psychological well-being in both samples.
Conclusion:
The RQ questionnaire is a suitable tool for measuring relationships in adulthood.
Limitations:
The main limitation of this research is that we did not address the possible discrepancy between administering the RQ using the Quick Choice and the Likert scale.
