Allocentric neglect may stem from visual processing limits in the visual field, not attention deficits. Degraded visual input could lead to perceptual completion instead of attentional failure.
Area of Science:
- Neuroscience
- Visual Perception
- Cognitive Psychology
Background:
- Allocentric neglect is often studied through an attentional lens.
- Limited data exists on visual field defects and extinction in allocentric neglect.
Purpose of the Study:
- To re-examine allocentric neglect from Rosenholtz's perspective.
- To investigate the role of peripheral visual limitations over attention.
Main Methods:
- Analysis of existing literature on allocentric neglect.
- Theoretical framework integrating visual input degradation and perceptual completion.
Main Results:
- Suggests allocentric neglect may involve visual input degradation.
- Proposes preattentive perceptual completion as a mechanism.
Conclusions:
- Allocentric neglect might be explained by visual processing limitations.
- Challenges the purely attentional model of allocentric neglect.
