    Juvenile hypothyroidism can cause precocious puberty due to elevated prolactin (PRL) levels. Treatment with L-thyroxine normalized hormone levels in one patient, suggesting a link between PRL hypersecretion and early sexual development.

    Background:

    • Pituitary stimulation tests revealed exaggerated TSH and PRL responses to TRH in the male patient.

    Findings:

    • Patients exhibited elevated luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estrone, and estradiol.
    • An attenuated gonadotropin response to GnRH was noted in the male and one female patient.
    • Hormonal levels normalized in one patient after L-thyroxine treatment, supporting the role of PRL hypersecretion.

    Implications:

    • This study suggests that prolactin hypersecretion may be a key factor in the development of precocious puberty associated with juvenile hypothyroidism.
    • Understanding this link can lead to improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for children with these conditions.
    • Further research is warranted to elucidate the precise mechanisms connecting hypothyroidism, hyperprolactinemia, and precocious puberty.
