Abstract:
The field of reactive carbenes and their heavier analogs has experienced extraordinary advancements in recent years. Among these, unsaturated variants have long been synthetic targets due to their unique electronic structures and reactivity profiles. However, their highly reactive nature poses significant challenges for isolation and characterization in the condensed phase. Here, we present the synthesis and characterization of a silylene-stabilized borasilylidene, a previously elusive unsaturated silylene featuring a B═Si double bond and a lone pair on silicon. This compound is capable of forming a unique π-complex with CuBr. Moreover, the borasilylidene displays exceptional cooperative reactivity toward B-F and C≡O bonds, leading to the formation of a silylene-stabilized diborylsilylene and a silylene-stabilized σ0π2 (boryl)(silyneyl)carbene, respectively. The discovery of this species not only enhances our understanding of boryl-substituted unsaturated silylenes but also opens new avenues for their application in small-molecule activation.

Regioselectivity and Stereochemistry of Hydroboration
Hydroboration proceeds in a concerted fashion with the attack of borane on the π bond, giving a cyclic four-centered transition state. The –BH2 group is bonded to the less substituted carbon and –H to the more substituted carbon. The concerted nature requires the simultaneous addition of –H and –BH2 across the same face of the alkene giving syn stereochemistry.

Stability of Conjugated Dienes
A comparison of the enthalpies of hydrogenation of dienes reveals that conjugated dienes release less heat on hydrogenation, rendering them more stable than their nonconjugated analogs.

Conformation
The simplest example of a diene is 1,3-butadiene, an acyclic conjugated π system. At room temperature, the molecule exists as a mixture of s-cis and s-trans conformers by virtue of rotation around the carbon–carbon single bond. Although the s-trans isomer is more stable,...
