Sociodemographic, occupational, and adaptation characterization: A study in worker-students at a university hospital

The knowledge society demands continuous learning as a tool for growth. Occupational adaptation is crucial to managing the balance between work-life and study, which can reduce dropout rates.

To analyze the occupational adaptation processes of workers at an accredited university hospital, in the context of their postgraduate studies in education.

This was a quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study with an analytical component. It focused on occupational adaptation based on Kielhofner's Model of Human Occupation (MOH).

The median age for those perceiving occupational adaptation is 41 years, compared to 39 years for those who do not. A higher proportion of women report a perceived lack of occupational adaptation compared to men. The roles of student, worker, caregiver, and family member are highly valued. Participants in healthcare and medical services are more likely to struggle with occupational adaptation (OR = 4.37 and OR = 4.00, respectively). Negative perceptions of performance and enjoyment in activities also affect occupational adaptation.

The perception of occupational adaptation in workers studying a specialization in university teaching at a university hospital is significantly influenced by the type of service performed and the need to adjust the workday.
