Good Hospital Pharmacy Practices require a daily saturated water vapor penetration test to be carried out. In 2021, preliminary work carried out at our facility highlighted the representativeness and sensitivity of Goubanne®. The aim is to roll it out for routine use 24hours a day, 7days a week.
Method:
The project was carried out in three phases. The first phase evaluated the Goubanne® on different sterilization cycles: "rubber", "linen", and "containers". The second phase studied reproducibility on "container" loads and measured the power consumption of BD cycles. Finally, the third phase consisted of training and evaluating staff before the planned implementation in September 2025 and the discontinuation of the BD 3M ETS® test.
Results:
The Goubanne® is unsuitable for "rubber" and "linen" cycles as the device emerges wet from the autoclaves. On "container" cycles, the compliance rate reached 94.5%. The average power consumption for a BD cycle was 3.17kWh. The questionnaire sent to staff received an average score of 4.93/6.
Conclusion:
Goubanne® appears to be a reliable and more environmentally friendly alternative to the BD 3M ETS® test. It is suitable for "container" cycles, but not for "rubber" and "linen" cycles. Its implementation in September 2025 will require careful monitoring to ensure the safety of the circuit. The assessment of savings, particularly in terms of water, needs to be further explored. This work could serve as a guide for other establishments.
