Abstract:
Implementation science is essential for translating evidence-based treatments into practical, sustainable healthcare solutions. However, in low- to middle-income countries like the Philippines, successful implementation requires adjustments to address systemic, structural, and cultural factors. This paper aims to 1) examine the application of implementation science in Filipino healthcare settings, focusing on contextual challenges, key barriers, and local facilitators, including community health workers, social cohesion, and the development of digital infrastructure; 2) demonstrate the use of three adaptable implementation science frameworks, including the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (C-FIR), the Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM), and the (Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment (EPIS). The paper concludes with specific recommendations for researchers and practitioners, emphasizing the importance of co-design, sustainable planning, and community engagement as foundational strategies for effective development. By recognizing context as an integral component rather than a barrier, implementation science can bridge the evidence-to-practice gap and support lasting improvements in health outcomes across the Philippines.
