Wideband JK flip-flop based on cascaded silica waveguide Mach-Zehender interferometers
Optics Letters

Abstract:
Direct optical logic gates represent crucial components for optical computing systems. We present an optical JK flip-flop with cascaded Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs). The JK flip-flop functionality is implemented by leveraging MZI modulation and mode filtering. Operating at 1550 nm, the output ports exhibit extinction ratios exceeding 17.69 dB. Notably, the wideband operation across the wavelength range of 1500-1620 nm maintains extinction ratios greater than 13.46 dB. This simple but reliable structure can be applied to other planar lightwave circuit platforms.

Cascaded Op Amps
1.1K
Operational amplifiers (op-amps) are versatile electronic components that can be interconnected in a cascade - one after another in a linear sequence. This cascading is possible due to their infinite input resistance and zero output resistance, allowing them to maintain their input-output relationships even when connected in series.
In a cascaded system, each op-amp is referred to as a stage. The output of one stage drives the input of the subsequent stage. As the input signal passes through...

Biasing of Metal-Semiconductor Junctions

Biasing metal-semiconductor junctions involves applying a voltage across the junction. Specifically, the metal is connected to a voltage source, while the semiconductor is grounded. This technique is essential for controlling the direction and magnitude of current flow in electronic devices, including diodes, transistors, and photovoltaic cells.
