Atypical bone and synovial metastases from colorectal adenocarcinoma: A case report

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a prevalent malignancy globally, ranking third in incidence and second in cancer-specific mortality. Despite advancements in diagnosis and treatment, the incidence of CRC, especially in younger individuals and developing countries, is rising. We present a unique case of a woman initially diagnosed with cecal adenocarcinoma who developed metachronous atypical bone and soft tissue metastases, including involvement of the left knee synovium. This case underscores the diagnostic and therapeutic complexities in managing CRC patients with atypical metastatic disease. The patient underwent various treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy, exhibiting mixed responses and prolonged survival compared to the typical prognosis. This case highlights the importance of clinical presentation in identifying unusual metastatic presentations in CRC patients and the need for individualised treatment approaches.
