Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between blepharoptosis and the risk of incident falls and fractures in adults.
  • To determine if surgical correction of blepharoptosis influences fall and fracture risk.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX Health Research Network (2004-2024).
  • 119,101 matched pairs of adults with and without blepharoptosis were analyzed.
  • Incident falls and fractures within one year were primary outcomes, assessed using risk ratios and Cox regression.

  • Patients with blepharoptosis showed significantly increased risks of falls (RR, 1.53) and fractures (RR, 2.46) within two weeks of diagnosis.

Conclusions:

  • Surgical correction of blepharoptosis appears to mitigate the risk of falls.
  • Blepharoptosis repair may play a role in fall prevention strategies.
