An AI-enabled mHealth integrated care solution for the management of Metabolic-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease
Abstract:
Metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is an increasingly prevalent global health issue, closely linked to rising rates of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. Lifestyle modifications remain central to its management, with emerging digital health solutions offering new opportunities for improving patient adherence and outcomes.We aimed to design and develop a patient-centered, mHealth-enabled integrated care application (named AI-MASLD) that empowers patients and enhances their management through a human-in-the-loop AI approach.The developed system features a patient-centered mobile app with gamified self-management tools for diet and physical activity tracking as well as stress monitoring. Healthcare professionals have access to a dashboard with role-specific tools, allowing physicians, dietitians, and physiotherapists to provide tailored care and approve AI-generated recommendations. The solution includes a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) and utilizes aggregated patient data for personalized insights and decision-making. Rigorous security testing ensures robust protection. In conclusion, the developed mHealth solution could represent a promising tool for the management of MASLD, integrating cutting-edge AI technology with personalized care.Clinical relevance- The proposed system could serve as a valuable tool to empower MASLD patients and enhance their management and rehabilitation. By bridging healthcare professionals' expertise with patient data, the platform aims to significantly improve patient outcomes, engagement, and adherence, while fostering a collaborative care environment.
