Background:
Mindfulness music training may reduce music performance anxiety (MPA) and improve technical precision.
Methods:
In a multi-site randomized controlled trial (RCT) (N = 498) across Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu, students were randomized 1:1 to mindfulness music training or an attention-matched control (music history/analysis seminars) for eight weeks.
Outcomes:
K-MPAI (MPA), ERQ-R (reappraisal), STAI-T (trait anxiety), and expert-rated technical precision. Two faculty raters were blind to allocation and wave; ICC(2,2) = 0.86 (95 % CI 0.82-0.89).
Results:
Training reduced MPA (β = -0.45, 95 % CI -0.58 to -0.32, p < .001) and improved technical precision (β = 0.25, 95 % CI 0.09-0.41, p = .002). Reappraisal increased (β = 0.50, 95 % CI 0.38-0.62, p < .001) and mediated anxiety reduction (indirect β = -0.22, 95 % CI -0.31 to -0.14). Trait anxiety moderated training effects on MPA (β_interaction = -0.20, 95 % CI -0.34 to -0.06, p = .005). The model explained R2 = 0.50 (MPA) and 0.35 (precision).
Conclusions:
An 8-week, domain-integrated program produced practically meaningful improvements (~10 points on K-MPAI) and enhanced execution consistency. Findings support cautious curricular integration, pending replication.

The Role of Exercise in Stress Management
Regular physical activity is essential for reducing stress and promoting cardiovascular health. Exercise strengthens the heart, enhances blood flow, keeps blood vessels flexible, and helps lower blood pressure, all of which reduce the body's stress response. Research shows that adults who exercise regularly have nearly half the...
